The best commodity we could offer is electricity. People with solar panels often generate enough electricity to sell some to the electric company. With enough solar pannels and wind turbines we could do this.
Yes Also we have a large solar panel array at my house, It can run everything but central heating and air with no problem, plus with battery back up you can power everything even on a cloudy day, and sell back excess electricity. The only problem is the start up costs, but there are many tax credits and writeoffs for "going green"

I have some experience with photo-voltaic systems and could help marginally with that as well (2 year degree in computer electronics)

I'm in
I work from home for a marginal 12/hr but I am willing to contribute half of each check, along with back breaking labor for a year. after that I would want to move into either cannabis/hemp farming or government.

no to government, and hopefully we can provision laws that will allow us to grow medicinal marijuana and use the hemp for building and clothing materials
lol@no to government
sorry, has to be government. Do you even know how running the type of community they are talking about here would work? Laws, and citizen policing. city judge elected by the people, and a council of representatives and mayor that can interact with other cities/businesses. We will need those businesses to bring jobs to our little spot.

Dude I work for the United State Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs, I know how the government works, if you want a job where you'll get paid on a normal basis, then don't come here, shit dude I'm waiting for a check for the END OF MAY.....yeah
Re: Jobs in AnonTown
So my updated Anontown Job-title is starting to look like "anon: the farming, town-feeding bartender".
If I offer everyone free booze for helping me fix up the saloon, I bet we wouldn't make any progress on anything until the saloon is up and running.

In all honesty, the bar would be one of the first things I fixed and stocked. I'll then start making home made wine and shit as well lol. I'm not an alcoholic but I do enjoy a nice stout beverage every other hour or so
Re: Jobs in AnonTown
I'm down for serving some locally brewed town beer.
First town meeting:
"ALRIGHT, FIRST THING'S FIRST. The official town beer: hoppy, or not hoppy?"
I can see the saloon being the town gathering place, after a long day of work.

Re: Jobs in AnonTown
with a town this crappy looking, there would easily be a job for everyone in construction and such. manual labor will most definitely be the first priority

Re: Jobs in AnonTown
Okay
so in my opinion, at least for the duration of the infancy phase of anontown,
work should be communal.
By that I mean everyone works, for free, in exchange for residency. All income made by the town through the various proposals (bar, gas station, biker stop, gambling, music venue, etc) directly goes back into the community through construction or to pay off any bills that we might endure.
Jobs would be filled based on qualification. For instance, I have firefighting experience so naturally I would be part of the firefighting task force. However, thats not a lot of labor is it? To make it 'even' perhaps I could spend a certain amount of hours a day doing construction. So, workers in a position of low labor job or a job that have a lot of downtime would fill more hours by doing construction, or security, etc. Meanwhile the bartenders or permanent construction workers would have a minimum amount of work a day.
Oh yeah, as another job idea, music festival of course (rave or indie kinda fest). I have a few contacts and could get something small started. I am sure with other anons we could get a decent lineup out.
Oh shit, another idea
I may get laughed at for this but some of you fools know how much money there is to be made in airsoft events. I have been to events that cost over 300$ just for attendence, not to mention cost of food and ammo and supplies. There is much money to be had and I have no doubt that this town would be a decent venue to host such events. If anyone doubts me just look up Operation Lion Claws. We could get a business deal going with them if neccessary.

I'd be perfect for general handyman/security. Eventually would like to get into the politics of it all. Also, tobacco grower.

I did landscape for a few years and have experience with backhoes, skidsteers, trenches and lots of greenhouse experience, and I also can drive a snowplow, which we will be needing

I'm generally an academic, but I'm good with landscaping, construction, refurbishment (general doing my bit until more suitable roles are assigned).

Re: Jobs in AnonTown
I suppose having a shit load of money isn't a job. I will have to do minimal work for my company while there. Other then that I have a wide variety of things I can do. Ranging from building to building electronics, to teaching to farming. I would also be willing to fill just about any role needed of me. I would love to work with Patrick on designing the aquaponics facilities as well. My back ground is in Bio-Chemical Engineering..

Re: Jobs in AnonTown
Can city law override state and federal? First thing we would wanna do would be to override the cannabis law/de-criminalize it.
Also, do we have to report to government officials if/when we buy it? Who would be in charge? Would be have police?

Well, I'm into more active stuff, I can help train Anon's in getting into shape, I am also way into sports, and I can write pretty well. I'd love to be a part of a local paper or even a little local broadcasting station, be it television or radio. I'm all over the place really, I'd even be willing to be a part of dealing with the Feds if they try to get up in our shit. If we run our shit contrary to what they feel is right, we might be looking at activism and whatnot, be prepared for that, should this project ever get off the ground to the point where we're all actually living in this town.

We've already been talking a lot about this, it's generally been agreed upon that there will be greenhouses.Moxi wrote:um.... Its south dakota, we MIGHT want to build a few greenhouses?

This is a double-edged sword. We are looking to get government funding, and I'm betting that we're not going to get a bunch of grants as a commune of pot-smoking hippies that waste their time on the internet. That said, there's a limit to what you can do as a city. Breckenridge, CO (I think I mentioned this in a few other threads....why does this keep coming up?") has legalized pot, but all this amounts to is that the police aren't going to arrest you because they find some on you. Still illegal (by federal law) to grow it.calthephenom wrote:Can city law override state and federal? First thing we would wanna do would be to override the cannabis law/de-criminalize it.
