Other ideas for tourism
Hey guys, Ausfag here, just thought I'd share some plausible tourist ideas if you want to pursue that avenue:
Theme town/park: A lot of you commented on the "old west" aesthetics of the town, why not exploit this particular fact and build the town to a western theme. Ideas could include horse rides, theatrical productions (not gay), museums, shooting ranges, bars, etc.
Motorbiking/ other leisure motoring: It wouldn't be difficult to establish the town as a good stop-over point for motorists, given the town's proximity to major roadways, etc. In addition, things such as motocross trails or small un-sealed raceways would be cheap, quick and easy to construct in the surrounding area. Other ideas to market to motorists could be refueling and resupplying as well as a resting area to combat fatigue.
Music festivals/ concerts: there is a small town in rural Australia (Woodford, QLD) that manages to sustain itself almost entirely on the hosting of a variety of multi-day music festivals in which the attendees purchase tickets and camp in the surrounding countryside.
A Distillery (Or micro-brewery): whiskey (and other high proof liquor) is becoming increasingly popular the world over. Why not set up a distillery in the town to attract drinkers/men. Many anons have successfully done so on a small scale at home, so I can't imagine it would be too hard.
Anyway just some ideas, I understand the project has a long way to go before we can start considering ideas like these.
Let me know what you think

Other ideas:
A Horse/dog racing track: As well as the associated gambling (in addition to the already proposed casino idea)
Spiritual retreat: People can come and take drugs in the desert.
Sell/rent the name of the town: Think Pepsiville or something like that, where a large corporation buys the naming rights to the town as marketing/sponsorship.

Horse track: Maybe
Retreat: ehh okay.
Sell name of town: Yeah because a town in the MIDDLE of nowhere will probably get some sponsorship. Right.

I imagine that if a group of young people banded together and bought a remote town with the intention of starting an experimental community there would be quite a bit of publicity. But whatever, just an idea.

We're not in it for the publicity nor are we trying to say it's an experimental community.
I understand what you're trying to say but having a name that's not something we came up wouldn't go over well.
Re: Other ideas for tourism
For example:
This town is NOT /b/.
