A similar project
Sup guys.
16 months ago some anons had a similar idea like you. It was called Project Anononia and its idea was to buy some land - preferable an island and start our own society, since we were/are fed up with political conditions we live in. Our goal is to create a society to maximize people's freedom as long as it doesn't take away someone elses freedom. At the moment we want to buy land in Cordoba, Argentinia. After many, many, many months of searching, we found out, that they allow to create municipals, which allows to make your own laws etc. I am a moderator of the forum and feel free to ask me any questions. At the moment our project is going a bit slow, because some of us have a job and others want to finish their studies.
the site is not fully finished, but the forums are.

Interesting idea, and it's been discussed here about buying an island. However as most anons will never leave the country and visit and island such as your own, we find it better to have a place anons can get to without too much extra effort within the USA.

Buying an island sounds much easier than it is. we've made a lot of research about lots of islands but most of them were either too small, too expensive, inhabitable due to preservation laws, flooded once a year, too far away from civilization (internet, cellphone function, hospitals etc) or didn't have fertile soil.
I'm not familiar with the exact agenda of your project, but ours is a strong political one - direct democracy, self-sufficiency and communal society. pretty much left wing libertarian anti-capitalistic way of life.

there's a lot more here http://freesteading.org/old/ (EDIT: okay, unregistered users can't view the form :/)we've changed the site and some things were sorted out from the forum or pooled.

Which is great and all, but I'm assuming that starting a legitimate municipality is quite a bit more complex than simply buying land.
well of course things aren't this easy. there are some requirements that have to be met - I can't remember them off the top of my head, but there are requirements. we are well aware that we won't be recognized as a municipality in a timeframe of some years, but MAYBE someday we will and until this day we'd have to live by argentinian laws.
I've already seen an old member of ours on your project; gun2dahead. hope he fits in better here.
